Post graduate qualifications with a focus on aerotropolis sectors and developments

Overview

The following qualifications make provision for professionals and practitioners in the aerotropolis field to access learning programmes with elective modules in these fields. A fully fledged aerotropolis masters course-work programme is planned for 2026

Learning programmes - Nature and Delivery Mode

1. The PG Diploma in Management and/or Leadership is offered as an after-hours contact and blended learning programme, requiring that learners attend some meetings or lectures after hours either on the Pietermaritzburg campus or Westville campus of the School of Management, IT and Governance (Management) or the Graduate School of Business (Leadership) in the College of Law and Management Studies at the UKZN. Provision has also been made to attend this programme through a well-structured process and system allowing for online and virtual classroom attendance, and learning.

2. The PG Diploma in Public Governance and Innovation with elective modules for aerotropolis related students will hopefully be offered in 2025 as a distance programme. Watch this space…

3. The PG Diplomas will be regarded as an entry qualification for the M Com in the Management of Airport Cities (Aerotropoli) with proposed special aerotropolis related core modules and other applicable electives. This masters programme may be available from 2026 as a distance programme.

Entry Requirements for PG Diplomas

Applicants may be registered for the qualification of Postgraduate Diploma provided that they have:

  • completed a Bachelor’s degree regarded as appropriate by the college concerned; or
  • been admitted to the status of that degree in terms of Rule GR7(a); or
  • attained a level of competence as defined in Rule GR7(b).
  • A college may prescribe further minimum criteria for admission to study.
  • A college may provide in its rules for an appropriate Advanced Diploma to be accepted for entry to a Postgraduate Diploma in accordance with the HEQF

Career Opportunities

Special provision has been made for learners from within the fields that are engaged in the Durban Aerotropolis, to attend the core modules required for management and leadership positions, both in the public and private sector. Special electives as highlighted in the course outlines below are available for students who desire to specialise in regional economic development, and especially the aerotropolis industry and fields.
